recently here a i had the displeasure of stopping at the flying j at federal way in seattle wa. what a joke i always thought that you had to watch out for the lot lizards in the parking lot, well i guess there they are working for the truck stop and restaurant.we had the misfortune of having a friend of ours having a waitress hitting on him ,well lets say comet isn't going to get rid of what he has. thank god i did not bring my children with us on this trip. one of the lizards working at the fuel isle was out in the parking lot doing her thing with another driver and didn't care who saw. when i advise the manager of this they just replied their are grown women that can do what they like. well it seems if you want to get picked up by waitress in there just go on in a sit down. and they start  hitting on you doesn't matter if your a women or a man. the corporate office doesn't seem to care much either on what they do. family oriented my ass i will never stop at another flying j again, i will run out of diesel first if they are the only thing around.

Thanks for the email.

The Flying J in Federal Way (as well as all others in Washington, a few in Oregon and Idaho, and one in Illinois) are owned by the Broadway Corporation and franchised to Flying J. Neither the Flying J or the Broadway Corporations give a rats ass about truckdrivers and particularly the Federal Way Flying J rents trailer drop spots to large trucking companies for $15 per day.(who could afford to purchase some land of their own) Both Flying J and Broadway deny this is true, but the evidence is overwhelming (anywhere from a 1/2 dozen to 20 dropped trailers every day).

Take Care,
and remember to tell your friends and family about us.......

for what it's worth, it's not just truckers that get screwed by flying j. i was employed by flying j as an architect. i worked hard, was honest, never stabbed anyone in the back, was up front about everything. i managed to save the corporation $$$$$$$$ by designing a more efficient plaza (not to mention j-cares and c-stores). the list of things i accomplished for the corporation is too long to list here, but do you have any idea how they repayed my efforts?? i was fired because "...i didn't fit the corporate profile." in other words, i stood on my own two feet, did not have my lips glued to my bosses ass, and didn't go around stabbing my fellow employees in the back by ratting them out. so for what it is worth, truckers you are not alone.

All these people got just what thet deserve since flying crook turned it s back on all the drivers that carry com check no one should have been there Well even Walmarts takes com checks alberteson food stores target and many more so what is the problem except they want to buil thier own little group of followers they don t belive in customers so they had to devise a way to get rid of us so if no one had been there nothing would have happened to them

JUST READ COMMENTS WHEN YOU SIGNED MY GUEST BOOK. I MYSELF HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS AT THE"J" BUT I'LL TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED TO ONE OF OUR DRIVERS AT THE GARY IN. "J' JUST LAST WEEK. HE PULLED IN TO FUEL, AS THE "J"s ARE OUR COMPANY FUEL STOPS. THE CARD READERS WERE NOT WORKING AS USUAL. HE CALLED IN ON THE PHONE TO GIVE THEM HIS INFO. WHEN ASKED FOR HIS PLATE NBR.HE TOLD THEM ALL WE NEEDED WAS UNIT NBR.&MILAGE AS WE USE THE "J" FUEL EXPRESS CARD THAT YOU JUST SWIPE THE CARD AT THE PUMP, PUT IN INFO. AND NO NEED TO GO IN TO SIGN YOUR FUEL TICKET AS IT IS CHARGED AUTOMATICILY. SHE TOLD HIM SHE DIDNT LIKE HIS ATTITUDED AND HUNG UP ON HIM. HE CALLED BACK, AND SHE HUNG UP AGAIN. HE WENT INSIDE AND TOLD HER WHO HE WAS AND HE WANTED TO SEE A MANGER RIGHT NOW ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED WHEN SHE CALLED ON THE INTERCOM FOR SERCUIRTY AT THE FUEL DESK. THREE SHOWED UP IN SECONDS. GRABED HIM BY BOTH ARMS AND DEMANDED WHAT WAS HIS PROBLEM. HE TRIED TO TELL THEM TO GET AWAY FROM HIM. WHEN ONE ASKED HIM IF HE WAS GONNA WHIP HIS ASS, HE SAID NO HE WASNT THAT STUPID, BUT IF YOU SWING FIRST HE SUE HIS ASS & THE "J". OTHER DRIVERS THERE TOLD THEM THAT HE DIDNT DO ANYTHING AND THEY WERE TOLD TO SHUT-UP AS BUTT-OUT. OUR DRIVER TOLD THEM HE REALLY NEEDED TO FUEL. HE GAVE HER HIS CARD TO SWIPE. AND TOLD HER HE DIDNT NEED TO COME BACK IN TO SIGN HIS FUEL TICKET, SHE TOLD HIM IF HE DIDNT SHE WOULD CALL THE COPS AND REPORT AS A DRIVE OFF, AND FAILURE TO PAY. THE WAS ESCORTED TO THE FUEL ISLANDS AND THEY STOOD THERE WHILE HE FUELED, THEN INFORMED HIM NEVER TO COME BACK, HE TOLD THEM THATS NOT A PROBLEM AS HE WOULDNT ANYWAY. THIS IS BULLSHIT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN ANYWHERE, BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS AT A "J" IT JUST SEEMS WORSE. ILL NEVER FUEL AT GARY AGAIN EITHER, BUT HAVE TO USE THE OTHER ONES.THANKS FOR YOU E MAIL, LET ME KNOW HOW YOUR LAWSUITE IS DOING. TRUCK SAFE AND BE CAREFUL.

SEE-YA,

CRITTER

Howdy, read about yer plight in one of the rags and remembered being pissed at that whole mess.First off we all know that the customer is always right, and Management should never antagonize a potentially bad situation such as yours. I thought I remembered reading something along the line of flying said you were drunk and started the incident. Be that as it may, that does not excuse their employees laying their hands on you. If you were as drunk as they claim, which I happen to doubt as I got the impression you had just fueled up,then the appreciate thing to do would have been to give you what you wanted until the Law arrived. This kind of treatment of any American at the hands of a retailer is unacceptable to say the very least, not to mention one of the most important Americans of all: A freighthauler. Much like the driver who brings them their precious fuel, and everything else they mark-up through the roof. I've never stopped at a Flying J,for more than coffee, and I NEVER will again. Now that's fersure. As will I continue to spread your story in hopes of convincing others not to risk bodily injury at the Flying J. Take Care.................SLICK MICK

My boyfriend is an owner/oper. leased to a company in Arizona. He was robbed at the Flying J TS in San Antonio on Wed. night 6/23. He was sleeping and someone used a key to get into the truck. He owns a Peterbilt. They climbed in, found his wallet, and took the cash. We beleive that he woke up suddenly, probably sensing someones presence, and interupted the thief. He found the drivers door open and the wallet sitting on the seat. Thank god, they just grabbed the cash. After reading your story I understand why Dan is not to interested in reporting the incedent. I thought they'd like to know what kind of crap is going on . But maybe not.

JIMMY C SMITH

Yes, I did visit your website. I also read your story in Landlinetm. I really felt for you! There was a story in the issue before about a driver having problems at the same Flying J (although not as bad as yours). (See Trucker's Chronicles ) I hope you own the bastards when you are done! I have had problems at the same place too! My incident was not even close to being as bad as yours was. I drive a six-wheel expediter for Landstar Express America. I was making a delivery in Atlanta the next morning and I ran out of my 10 hours near Resaca. I had plenty of time to deliver so I decided to stop and sleep for the night. I tried parking with the trucks but as you know, it is tough to find a parking spot there at 1 am. I could not find a spot. So I took my straight truck and parked in the RV section, as I have done many times before at Flying J's. A few hours later some maintenance guy come banging on the side of my truck screaming at me to move my truck or else. (At the time I assumed the "or else" meant, him calling the cops, but after reading about your incident it made me wonder). I knew I was in the wrong for parking in a restricted area so I left. But later I got to thinking "How many times have I pulled into the truck lot and finding all kinds of RV's parked there and no one says a word". Moreover, there was not another RV insight where I parked and at 3:30 in the morning, chances are slim there would be one. I concluded the guy was just being a prick. If I had the power, I would call for a boycott of that damn chain! They have forgotten who made them. They need reminded! Good Luck, Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

I normally don't believe stories like yours being the innocent victim BUT This one I really believe! About 2 years ago I decided to stop at a Flying J NOT knowing they didn't take COMDATA. Hell I thought all truck stops did. So I put on 150 bucks or so I can't really remember. I went in to pay up and I handed her my card the girl said "we don't take COMDATA." I laughed cause I am a big cut up saying "yeah right" she said "cant you FUCKING READ?" I then got kinda pissed and didn't know what to say Which is rare for me. So I said "what kinda chicken shit outfit wouldn't take COMDATA?" Hell everybody takes COMDATA. I've paid my damn rent with a comcheck before. She called the manager And anyway they was going to hold my truck hostage. I said yeah right ill run over any fucking body who trys, in somewhat of a joking way thinking this is so silly !!! He said if I cant pay my truck isn't leaving and he will have me arrested for theft. I laughed and said I haven't stole shit yet. I then said "are yall out of your damn minds? dly......are they sure the person who did this nasty thing is a truckdriver?Am I the only one who ever did something dumb like this? How in the hell was I supposed to know all didn't take COMDATA, they said all truckers knew and if I was a REAL truck driver I would have known they said "its written on ALL the pumps, If I COULD READ I would have known better. then I said " I've ALWAYS heard FLYING J SUX So I have never been to one this is my 1st time, In all of this I was still actually making a joke out of all this half mad but trying to keep a good sense of humor about it all, then a couple other guys was behind me laughing but kinda on my side. And I heard 2 employees talking about how Stupid some truckers are, And basically called me a moron. Then I was pissed and said FUCK ALL OF YOU, one of them said the cops are coming. I said for what You guys are fucking crazy Do you take Visa? They said "yes are you sure its good?" I have to admit I cussed them out pretty bad and was threatened, to go to jail and I said for what they cant do shit I've not done anything and laughed as I was walking out after they took my visa info, I kinda wish I was in your place that night I am a pretty big guy. I think I could have taken a couple of them out lol This is just damn ironic, I just wonder if the girl who gave me attitude was the one you called a bitch I don't know if it is or not. But this girl sure hates truckers I hope you win your lawsuit because I really think there could have been a fight had I been in a bad mood they really pushed me. But I kept a level head. Plus I am 6 ft 4 280 and a lot of muscle I am sure they are chicken shits or they would have followed me too lol Good luck Brother! Rob AKA RENEGADE! Lexington KY

I read your web site it was great...Fly J sucks big donkey dick.......lololololololoolololoololololololo....take me to dinner Ha.....later log.....

I used Flying J exclusively for almost 2 years, because they were clean, the fuel was less expensive and they had food BETTER than most other places. However, I found, of all the places I fueled, I had more problems at Flying J than at other stops. More employees of Flying J treated me contemptuously than at any other place. I have been yelled and screamed at by employees for simply sending unfit food back. Once my wife and I ordered biscuits and "sausage" gravy. What we got was not only plain cream gravy, but also ice cold as well. When we complained, we were told "we are out of sausage gravy" (common sense says, if you are out of something, you ask first BEFORE you substitute) I told the waitress to take it back, and she SCREAMED at us "I don't have to put up with this shit" and stormed off.

The Last straw happened in Wyoming. At the Cheyenne and Laramie Flying J stops respectively. In Cheyenne, I put on over 250 gals. of fuel. I waited in line to eat. A tourist family standing in line BEHIND another driver and I were seated ahead of us. When I complained, I was told by, first a waitress, they by the manager, that tourists had seating priority ahead of truck drivers, regardless of the fact that I had fueled up there. I left and went to the Laramie Flying J, where I ate. I attempted to pay for my meal with my debit card (as I always do) and they told me that their card reader said my card was invalid (common, since my card expires in the year 2000, and many places aren't Y2k compliant) they attempted to grab my card out of my hand and cut it in two. That was the last time I have stopped at a Flying J.

Michael, I would be interested in hearing in more detail about your story. As 'I said until this morning, I have had nothing but positive experiences at Flying J Truckstops, This morning however my eyes were opened. Last night I pulled into the Flying J in Franklin, KY on a run from Memphis, TN to PA. I spent the night there then went in and got a shower and ate in the restaurant. I pulled my truck to the fuel island and proceeded to fuel my truck. I have a brand new 99 Volvo and just paid $30.00 to have it washed the day before. Well as you know they don't have any way to secure the pumps to the truck and as a consequence one of the pumps fell out spraying fuel all over my truck. I got the water hose and holding it up turned it on spraying the diesel off my truck. There was a very bad leak where the water hose connects to the pipe and my pants got soaked. Perplexed I went to the manager's office and explained what happened to the Assistant General Manager Charles C. Madison, Jr. He said there was nothing he could do for me. I however was quite insistent that he does something for me. He called his boss over, the General Manager Kristopher Douglas Roach. Again, I explained what had happened in detail to him. He asked me what he was supposed to do and I told him they sold jeans and suggested he provide me with a pair. He refused stating I could just put on one of my dirty pair and he could dry the ones that got soaked. I told him that was unacceptable. He started yelling at me so I asked for the telephone number to the Home Office. He gave me the number 435-734-6486. I called there and spoke to a very polite lady named Melinda who apologized for the attitude of the management and told me she would have the General Managers boss call him and provide me with the new pair of jeans. I waited 5 minutes and went back to the office (it was locked) and the Third point......is it possible that everyone who wrote me an email about the way they were manager was frowning at me with a surly malicious frown waving me away from the office. I had picked out the jeans and had them in my hand. I put them down, went back, and called the home office again telling Melinda they were being uncooperative. I told her I had enough and would just pay for the jeans myself. She asked me not to and told me she would make sure I got the jeans free. Apparently, she got someone to call the manager because when I walked back he was there with a bad attitude and was very surly, staring at me with hatred. If looks could kill I would be dead let me tell you. I called Melinda back, told her of his attitude, and suggested they fire him. I really feel the problem is with the management at the store level. I know not all the Flying J Truckstops managers are of poor caliber but it seems they need to clean house to improve their image. Feel free to publish my story on the Internet.
